GE reconoce su contribuci\u00f3n como periodista de investigaci\u00f3n al denunciar la corrupci\u00f3n y promover el estado de derecho en Malta y Europa.<\/span><\/p>\n En un contexto en el que la libertad de prensa est\u00e1 siendo atacada, el coraje y la determinaci\u00f3n de Daphne Caruana Galizia de buscar la verdad en el inter\u00e9s p\u00fablico sigue siendo un referente en la lucha por las libertades democr\u00e1ticas amenazadas.<\/span><\/p>\n A trav\u00e9s del periodismo de investigaci\u00f3n, Daphne trabaj\u00f3 sin descanso para luchar por la libertad de expresi\u00f3n y denunci\u00f3 la misoginia. As\u00ed mismo realiz\u00f3 investigaciones sobre corrupci\u00f3n en los m\u00e1s altos niveles de gobierno a pesar del acoso profesional que sufri\u00f3 a lo largo de su carrera.<\/span><\/p>\n Daphne era constantemente objetivo ataques. El acoso ampliamente denunciado que enfrent\u00f3 en l\u00ednea por grupos de odio sigui\u00f3 a m\u00faltiples ataques a su hogar y su familia, especialmente a su hijo Matthew.<\/span><\/p>\n “Daphne sigui\u00f3 adelante a trav\u00e9s de los insultos, la intimidaci\u00f3n, la condescendencia y los ataques, que finalmente pag\u00f3 con su vida. Ella fue asesinada como resultado de su trabajo. The widely-reported harassment she faced online by hate groups followed multiple attacks on her home and her family.<\/span><\/p>\n “Daphne pushed forward through the insults, intimidation, condescension and attacks, but it ultimately led to her death. She was killed as a result of her work. She was killed because those in power wanted her silenced,” said Teresa Carreras, GAMAG EUROPE coordinator.<\/span><\/p>\n GAMAG EUROPA condemns such practices and calls for urgent action to stop further harassment of others in the profession.<\/span><\/p>\n Three years since her death, there is still no justice for her in a European Union Member State. Impunity for her murder is a risk to all of Europe, once a bastion in the defence of press freedom as a fourth pillar in a democracy.<\/span><\/p>\n GAMAG, The Global Alliance on Media and Gender, and GAMAG EUROPA, its european chapter, pays tribute to her courage, her fearlessness and to the impact she had not just in Malta, but across the world.
